Stucco and exterior wall repair
Stucco cracks can be surface wear or a sign of movement in the wall behind them. We look at both and repair from the inside out.
Reading the cracks
Fine hairline cracks in stucco are common. Cracks that run from window corners, step across the wall or come back after patching can point to movement in the framing or the foundation. We check before we patch.
Behind the stucco
When stucco comes off, the weather barrier, lath and sheathing are exposed. We replace what is wet or damaged, and if the wall is a shear wall, we nail new sheathing to the schedule the plans call for.
New stucco and color
We apply the scratch, brown and finish coats, then match the color and texture of the walls that stay.
Stucco & Exterior: questions
Yes, when the wall behind it is sound. We blend the patch into the existing finish.
Repeated cracks usually mean the wall is still moving. We find the cause before we repair the surface.
Yes. With the sheathing exposed, shear wall nailing and hold-downs are easier to add.
